Character creator

The sliders, morph lists, icons and backdrop of the character creator, as mod data.

The character creator's content is data in CharGen/ and MorphTags/: which sliders exist, how they are grouped, what the legacy morphs map to, and what the screen looks like.

Sliders: CharGen/FeatureMorphs.txt

text# <Page>.<Group>: <MorphName>[+<MorphName>…] = <Label>
Face.Overall: PHMFaceRound = Round face
Face.Nose: PHMNoseSize = Size
Body.Chest: PBMBreastsSize = Breast size
  • Page is Face or Body; the group is the heading the slider appears under.
  • Several morphs joined with + move together on one slider.
  • A line whose morph the current body does not have is skipped, so one file serves both bodies.
  • A mod adds sliders with its own CharGen/FeatureMorphs.txt: groups merge across mods.
tip

Only name morphs the Genesis 8 meshes actually carry. A slider for a morph the mesh lacks silently never appears.

Named shapes: CharGen/MorphAliases.txt

The names scenes pass to Actor:setMorph / modifyMorph / getMorph (People):

ini# <name> = <dial>[*weight] [+ <dial>*weight ...] [| <dial>*weight ...]
weight = FBMHeavy | FBMThin
muscle = FBMFitnessSize + FBMFitnessDetails*0.6 | FBMEmaciated*0.4
breasts = PBMBreastsSize | PBMBreastsSmall

Left of | is what a positive value moves, right of it what a negative value moves, so a two-sided shape runs from -1 to 1; a shape without | runs from 0 to 1. A dial the body does not carry is skipped. A later mod's line replaces the name.

Legacy morph translation: CharGen/MorphMap.txt

text# <MakeHumanControl>_max = <Dial>*<weight> [+ <Dial>*<weight> …]
Head_Size_max = Head_Width*0.5 + Cranium_Height*0.4
Head_Size_min = Head_Width*-0.5 + Cranium_Height*-0.4

How legacy MakeHuman morphs in old presets are sent to Genesis 8 dials. An approximation by eye: tune it, and old presets look better, without changing what they save.

Random faces and bodies

The generator builds a random person by blending whole heads and bodies from the lists in the game's shared MorphTags folder (trueFaces.txt, trueBodies.txt…). A mod's MorphTags/ folder adds to them: a trueFaces.txt, falseBodies.txt… there (same Name: tag, tag lines) adds heads and bodies to the pool, and a line naming one already in it replaces its tags. AllMorphTags.txt adds tags, MorphLabels.txt slider labels.

Look of the screen

File Is
CharGen/Backdrop.png The creator's background
CharGen/Icons/*.png Icons of the creator's tabs and categories
CharGen/Thumbs/ Thumbnails for pickers

A later mod's file at the same path replaces the base one.
